National Awards
I opened the mail this morning and had reall really good news . We are finalists in the National Country Music awards and are stoked . We are in the Best Aussie group and the section for Instumental of the year!
The Instumental of the year in great as we actually re-did a lot of recording on that track as we weren't totally happy at first , it was worth the effort . We all put in on that track , Gaz is the obvious , with dan playing the lovely finger picking and the lead part with his fancy interval work ( Damn Randoes !! ) and I (Paul) played the intro and actually went bak to Fatmans studio and rerecorded it for the same reason , not quite right !!. when we went to the studio in Sydney , we got all the way there and Dan came up from Nowra and they bloke forgot about us and didn't front and so that was a day wasted but we got there in the end and it was all worth the effort apparantly !
Peoples Choice report
Excited little Bushies are we !!!
Thanks everyone that voted for us . We are in the top ten in three categories for the Peoples Choice awards in Tamworth for the Festival in 2007 !!
We have never really been involved in all the award Ceremonies at the festival but this year we thought why not and we entered ourselves in the Musicoz competition and we were stoked to get to the top ten in our category . Congrats to the Hottentots who won our category !!
This week we received this exciting news about our three top ten spots in the Peoples Choice Awards .
( www.peopleschoiceawards.com.au ). It is even more so that it is voted by you folks ( although I did punch a vote through for us also ).
We would also like to congratulate our mates at 2MCR, Helen Kay and Frankie T and everyone at the station as they received nominations individually and as a station .
We hope you don?t mind us trumpet blowing but if we don?t the trumpet remains un blown !! ( or something like that !!)
It is a great start to the 2007 Festival !!
CD Three is out there !!!
Launch Report
On the Long weekend at the local RSL we had about 300 of our closest friends turn up to help us celebrate the release of our brand new CD , Beat?n Round The Bush .
After a small technical hitch , THE SOUND MAN NOT TURNING UP !!!! we overcame that , got another bloke in and had a bloody ball . A young local bloke called Peter McGuirter played a great little song that he wrote called the Christmas Beetle and then Country Music Legend Tony Martin did a couple of tunes for us !
Simply Bushed played all of the new songs from the CD and a heap of Bushy favourites , all up played two big sets .
We also said farewell to Dan Miranda after three big years of fancy Randoes Chords and turning My amp down we gave him the Golden Boot !!
A Great bloke called Chris Rieger is taking over where Dan left off . Chris is a a great muso and also spent a couple of years plying in Ireland and Europe , so he knows a heap of great Irish stuff !!
The CD is available now through the net and should be available through the shops by the end of the month . Our single ?Cangai Bridge? is being released Australia wide at the end of October through the NFS network ( No 109 ) and we will be recording our first film clip following Tamworth next year !
We would also like to thank everyone involved in making it a success , We had both our local papers support thanks to Melanie and Domineca , 2 MCR and all the folks there are always a huge support so thanks to Helen , Frankie , Britten and all our supporters there . A number of businesses allowed us to advertise in there shops , C91.2 and Cool Country both gave us radio coverage and we thank them and the list goes on . Then there is all the web sites that gave us coverage like Cowboys in Cyberspace , Tamworth Rage Page and the Independant Country Music Bulletin . Most of all it would have been a crap gig without all of our local mates and not so local mates , the diehards turned out for us and all our mates from St Helens park were there in force . So thanks everyone and we hope you enjoyed the party !!
we will see ya when we are looking at ya !!
Gympie 2006 !!
The 25th Anniversary Gympie Toyota Muster was without a doubt , BEST GIG EVER!!
Congrats to Brian, Marylou ,Sylvia and all the Muster team . Great Party Guys !!!
Simply Bushed rocked on four occasions but none more that the closing gig of the Muster . After the main stage finished we pumped out a heap of rocking bush tunes in the Muster Club and finished with a thousand or so of our closest mates singing the hell out of First Australian !
We have already received some really nice emails and would like to thank folks for those , ( aww shucks !!!) we also ran most of the new originals off the new CD aand people seemed to be foot tapping and beer swilling along with them , not a bad result .
Don?t forget the release of the new CD is Imminent !!!watch out for details on this very spot for the Launch date)
Personally besides the gigs at the muster we saw lots of great acts and met heaps of nice folks . We were camped next to a champion bloke called Peter Denahy and laughed our arses off at his gigs . we also saw the Pigs , Sensitive New Aged Cow Persons !!, Graeme Connors , The Flood and rocked our sox off to Barnesy !!! We met Juzzie Smith and his mate the Great Scott , and had a great time with them .Every Act was Brilliant and the list goes on ??.!!
Another great thing that happened was that there is a great artist called Bob Gammage and he paints artscapes , you may have seen him around the Muster and at Tamworth . We have met him a couple of times now and he painted a great picture of us playing at the Muster Tavern . It was sold at the Art auction . Thanks Bob !!( Bobs paintings raise a lot of money for Charity . ) Bob also had a mate come along also an artist Brian Tisdell. Brian actually did a sketch of Bob painting us and gave it to me as a gift .Thanks Mate , it's going up in the Studio !!!
The Volunteers at Banjo?s also made the time brilliant and thanks to Mary and Mark and Janine and Both the Georges and Norma and Brandon and everyone else we met !!!
Hopefully we will see you there again next year !!!
( Next Major Party , Tamworth Woo Hoo !!)
By the way if any one has any photos of the closing gig , I would love to recieve a couple !!!
Gympie Tick Terrors !!
I'll get back to you with this one soon !!
Small Small World
In April of this year we went out to one of favourite little country towns White Cliffs in far north Wersten NSW .
We first went to this little town back 2004 during our Mend the Broken Hill tour , we hung out there for four days there and Swapped Graeme Wellings , pub owner and absolute gentleman , accomodation for our days off for a gig in his pub , so we went and met everyone in town , invited them to the pub we had one of our best nights ever and so began the frindship of Simply Bushed with White Cliffs BUT ... That is not the story !!
We went out there this year in April , as I said a, and played at the annual Gymkhana and Rodeo !! we had a great weekend and partied with our mates out there , Spoons , Black pete , Tim Dennis and Ding Dong !!
but at the pub on Sunday night , the rest of the band had already headed home and I was partying and singing a few tunes for the folks , there was a fairly familiar face in the crowd .
I hadn't met this bloke there but somewhere , anyway a bit later as I was walking out of the Dunny this bloke was walking in .
at the risk of appearing a bit strange , starting up convo's in dunny's( george michael style ). I said the old, 'scuse me mate but I know you from somewhere ,
he said no you dont me ( most folk at white cliffs are anonymous and find nothin but Potch !!!)
I asked his name and he said David ..... I butted in with , " from Liverpool Pats "( our old high School )
He recoiled in shock and vaguely remembered me as he was a couple of years behind me ( in my little brothers year) and we had not seen or spoken for twenty five years or so and run into the bloke in outback White Cliffs .
Needless to say we got on the piss together and it was great to see an old mate .. Its a small world !!
If you are ever travelling out west and get to Wilcannia just turn right at the end of town go for about a hundred K's and you will be there . Go straight into the pub and Tell them Paully from Simply Bushed sent you and you will be glad you did !!!
A song taht will never be heard !
Well there are millions of stories from the road to tell and over the next couple of years we will have a heap to tell , To follow is the first !
This year at Tamworth , I had an amazing TFTR (Tale from the road ), I went to the country music awards which were fantastic and after we were going out on the piss and listening to as much music as possible , both of these facts are not the story .
Now not being in the business of embarrassing people , all of the names have been changed but the story is as true as true can be !!
At the first port of call I had a couple of quick Wild Turkey and dries ( my swill of choice ) whilst I snuck in and watched Texas Rose lift of the roof of an unnamed venue .
At this particular venue I had reason for the week to deal with a bloke , lets call him Malcolm and his son Malcolm Junior and as I was exiting after my third turkey , I ran into Mal Junior , who we had become mates with and he was very excited to tell me he had written a song that day and would I have a minute to come and listen to it , ( his guitar was not far away !!) . his song was good for a young bloke and he showed a lot of talent and sang it well and I think we had better watch out for him down the track . Mal senior then asked do I have time to listen to one of his , I said ? sure ? not expecting that much ?
Well Stuff me if he didn?t blow me away with one of the best performances I have experienced of one of the most heartfelt and powerful songs that I have heard (and I listen to a lot of songs ),
I was left speechless and anyone who knows me knows that that does not happen very often .
The chorus of this song was
What am I , What am I , What am I ?gonna do with all this love !!
Anyway I don?t know if anyone will glean anything from this my first story from the road , its not funny , there might be a moral, I am not sure , and you may ask why did he bother with this rubbishy story . I?ll tell you why , I have been going to Tamworth for six years now and I had just come from the biggest show in town , but I will never forget that moment . I would like to thank Malcolm and his champion son Mal junior for it . If Tamworth really is about the music then this was it for me . Furthermore if I can ever manage to write a song like the one that one bloke sang the hell out of to a one man audience (nothing suss) I will die a happy muso !!
I promise the next story will be funny !!!
